Biogy Solutions AS and waste management company Iris Produksjon AS have entered into a long-term framework agreement for the annual delivery of 10,000 tonnes of food waste to the Halsa biogas plant in Meløy municipality. The partnership also includes plans to scale up collections to 30,000 tonnes of waste per year. The collaboration marks an important step in the development of a more circular and sustainable value chain in Nordland.
Under the agreement, food waste will be converted into renewable energy in the form of LBG (liquid biogas), as well as high-value by-products that can be returned to agriculture as nutrient-rich biofertilizer. Biogas contributes not only to reduced greenhouse gas emissions by replacing fossil fuels, but also cuts, cutting methane emissions from waste, while producing locally sourced, circular resources.
Biogy Solutions is a producer of LBG and CO2. The company is owned by the French energy producer FDE (La Française De l’Énergie), which is expanding its portfolio of production facilities in Norway. Its first biogas plant is under construction in Halsa in the municipality of Meløy, and from 2027 the plant will produce 120 GWh LBG annually for use as fuel in the maritime and heavy road transport sectors amongst other.
The project has been developed as a hub for the circular economy in Nordland. The county has a significant aquaculture industry and good access to energy-rich substrates, which offers great potential for increased biogas production in the region.

From waste to resources
Iris Produksjon operates one of Northern Norway’s largest composting plants outside Bodø and processes today around 10,000 tonnes of food waste annually. Given the high costs associated with waste transport, this agreement paves the way for more efficient and sustainable resource management in the region.

The collaboration between Biogy Solutions and IRIS is a concrete contribution to the green shift in Northern Norway and shows how waste can go from being a problem to becoming an important part of the renewable energy solutions of the future.
